Mérida, Yucatán — The power of women artists' voices resonated during the "Voces Emergentes Vol. 3" concert, which united the revolutionary singing of the group Laboratoria with the nostalgic dream-pop of Sueño a Marte, as the closing event of the Muestra Musical de Yucatán 2025, organized by the Secretaría de Cultura y las Artes de Yucatán (Sedeculta).
The Sala de Conciertos del Palacio de la Música was the stage for this powerful encounter between Laboratoria, an ensemble of renowned Yucatecan performers, and Sueño a Marte, a band from Mexico City noted for its participation in various festivals such as "Vive Latino" and "Marvin."
Through the "Voces Emergentes" concert program, the Secretaría de la Cultura y las Artes (Sedeculta) strengthens this meeting space so that emerging musical projects from Yucatán can interact with national groups, promoting their artistic development, projection, and professionalization, while also expanding the state's cultural offerings for diverse audiences, with special emphasis on youth participation.
Paloma Kuh, Lola Manzanilla, Daniel Romero, Regina Carrillo, Dominique Ossés, and Momo Flores took the stage exclaiming slogans for the liberation of oppressed peoples, before performing "Barro tal vez," by Luis Alberto Spinetta. The audience, which filled the Palacio de la Música space half an hour early, responded immediately, endorsing the slogans and recognizing the vocal and instrumental talent of each of the members of Laboratoria.
With "Respira," "Deja que se rompa," and "Blues del terror," their own compositions, the group underlined the importance of living serenely amid everyday pressures, as well as the rejection of violence against women. Pieces such as "17 años," by Violeta Parra; "La chusma inconsciente," by Evelyn Cornejo; and "Mal bicho," by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, adapted by La Colmena, were also part of this ensemble of Yucatecan artists that opened Voces Emergentes Vol. 3.
Next came the transition pause, whose prominence intensified with distorted guitars and a solid drum start, with the indie sound, with tones of alternative rock, that filled the Palacio de la Música with the entrance of Sueño a Marte. The low tone of Mariella Millán's voice and the nostalgic vibe of her compositions were manifested in songs like "Animal" and "Fragilmente," a piece presented live for the first time during this encounter.
With a fresh image, which contrasted with a strong attitude on stage, Millán and Sueño a Marte showed why they are a group advancing with firm steps in the Mexican indie rock scene, through a style that combines the romantic with nostalgia and melancholy. Proof of this was their cover of "¿Por qué te vas," by singer-songwriter Jeanette, which left behind the soft and romantic tone of the original version to give it an air of reproach and, at the same time, liberation.
"Malas ideas" and "Faro" also showed the musical versatility of the band, comprised of musicians from Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Santiago de Chile, which transitions from pop to the harder sounds of alternative rock and some touches of trip-hop.
"Marea," "Silencios," and "Sailor" were the finale of Sueño a Marte's setlist, which received applause from the audience that arrived at the Palacio de la Música for this recital organized by the Secretaría de la Cultura y las Artes as a special closing for the three days of activities of the Muestra Musical de Yucatán 2025, which included two other recitals with the local bands and soloists Val Hozu, Yaalen K’uj, Los Detectives, Pedro Honda, Dary Alva, Moon Jungle, Twin Machine, and Jet Lag.
