Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Two men were detained by public security elements after being caught attempting to steal more than 150 items from a Chedraui supermarket located on Boulevard Playa del Carmen in the Centro neighborhood of this city.

According to initial reports, the store's private security personnel detected the individuals after noticing suspicious behavior as they moved through the store's aisles. The security elements decided to discreetly follow them, observing that both men were attempting to hide various products within their clothing, primarily in their pants.

Given the flagrant nature of the act, the guards intercepted the suspects as they were heading toward the exit without having passed through the checkout lanes. A preventive body inspection confirmed that the men were carrying a large quantity of concealed products, including personal hygiene items, food, electronic accessories, and smaller objects, all taken without authorization.

After confirming the attempted theft, the private security personnel requested support from the Municipal Police, whose officers arrived at the location within minutes. Once on site, the officers formally detained the two individuals and transported them to the facilities of the General Directorate of Public Security for subsequent processing by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The authorities have not revealed the identity of the detainees, who could face charges for robbery. Under current legislation in Quintana Roo, this offense can warrant criminal penalties depending on the total value of the stolen goods.

The incident has generated concern among merchants in the city center, who have requested increased vigilance and police presence to prevent this type of incident from recurring, especially in areas with high traffic from tourists and locals.
