COZUMEL, QRoo — The Secretary of Health has reinforced the fumigation campaign on the island of Cozumel following an increase in the presence of mosquitoes that transmit dengue, a situation that has generated concern among the population and local authorities.
The municipal Undersecretary of Health, Juan Antonio Dzul Cámara, reported that state support arrived with seven trucks and specialized equipment, bringing the total number of vehicles working daily to fumigate the entire island to eleven.
"We are covering the neighborhoods from very early in the morning to prevent the population from remaining exposed. The recent rains favor the reproduction of the mosquito, so we will not lower our guard," the official stated.
As of September 11, 50 cases of dengue have been confirmed in Cozumel, and there are 200 probable cases under analysis. Authorities are calling on citizens to collaborate by eliminating junk and containers that accumulate water in patios and on rooftops, as these are breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
The City Council, in coordination with the vector control department, will continue with actions of massive fumigation, thermal fogging, and larval control across the entire island until the situation is under control.
