Cozumel, Mexico — The Director General of the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC), Juanita Alonso Marrufo, has confirmed that all preparations are complete for the Ironman 70.3 event scheduled for this Sunday, September 21. The competition will be held at Chankanaab Park, where the participation of over 2,550 triathletes from 59 countries is expected, solidifying the island's status as a premier international sports tourism destination.

During a recent press conference, Alonso Marrufo emphasized that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety and experience of the athletes. Competitors will face a demanding course consisting of a 1.9-kilometer swim, followed by a 90-kilometer cycling segment, and culminating with a 21.1-kilometer half-marathon. Each of these segments has been meticulously planned in collaboration with local authorities to provide an optimal environment.

This event is part of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, an initiative promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. This program aims to foster growth in the region through projects that integrate sports, culture, and tourism, thereby reinforcing Cozumel's identity as the Island of Sport and a benchmark for international sporting events.

Mauricio Zavala, Director of Ironman Mexico, highlighted the uniqueness of Cozumel as a destination for triathletes, citing its impressive landscapes, route safety, and the high quality of the event's organization. "Cozumel is one of the most special places in the world for triathletes," he stated.

"Welcome, everyone, to experience the excitement of Ironman 70.3 in Cozumel!" concluded Alonso Marrufo, inviting both the local community and visitors to enjoy this celebration of sport, tourism, and the natural beauty the island offers.

This event promises not only to be a high-performance competition but also a showcase of Cozumel's tourism potential on the international stage.
