QUINTANA ROO, Mexico — The state of Quintana Roo will participate in the National Drill 2025 on Friday, September 19, with a hurricane scenario, marking the second such simulation to be held in Mexico. The state government and emergency authorities have issued a series of recommendations for the public.

The event, which occurs alongside the celebrations for Mexico's Independence Day, is held each September 19 across Mexico to commemorate the earthquakes that struck in 1985 and 2017. This year, however, Quintana Roo's drill will focus on a hurricane hypothesis.

When and How the Hurricane Drill Will Occur

With the objective of promoting a culture of Civil Protection among the population and enhancing the response capabilities of internal units and their brigades in the event of an emergency or disaster, the Government of Mexico, through the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection and the National Coordination of Civil Protection, is inviting public and private organizations across the country to participate in the Second National Drill 2025.

The drill is scheduled for Friday, September 19, at 12:00 p.m. Central Mexico Time. On that day, alert sirens will sound and a notification will be sent to cell phones, enabling residents to join the activity. In other states, the drill will be conducted under an earthquake hypothesis.

How to Register Properties for the Hurricane Drill

Authorities are requesting collaboration from the public to register their properties on a digital platform by Wednesday, September 18, at 11:59 p.m.

A statement from the government noted, "Given that not all federal entities are exposed to the effects of an earthquake, we respectfully request that you propose the hypothesis you deem most appropriate, based on the risk scheme detected for each property according to its location."

The public is advised to stay informed about local schedules by following official social media channels on Facebook and Twitter. The simulation will be carried out at 12:00 p.m. Central Mexico Time.
