The event, marked by historical reflection and civic pride, took place at the municipal plaza and was presided over by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde.

A Tribute to Generations of Resilience

“We celebrate with joy the greatness of the island’s people,” declared Governor Lezama, emphasizing that the anniversary symbolizes generations of struggle, identity, and hope. The ceremony honored descendants of the founding families and recognized individuals who have contributed significantly to the community.

Awards included the Citizen Merit Medal, Tourist Merit Medal, and the Goddess Ixchel honors, bestowed upon those who have made notable contributions to Isla Mujeres’ society. Governor Lezama herself received the Goddess Ixchel award in the “Empowerment of Women” category.

Economic and Social Progress Highlighted

Governor Lezama underscored the island’s economic strength, citing over 11,000 hotel rooms that solidify its status as a vital tourism hub. Direct support for fishermen, a cornerstone of the island’s identity, was also emphasized. “The New Agreement for Well-Being and Development in Quintana Roo is lived here as a path of transformation,” Lezama stated, reaffirming her commitment to ensuring resources benefit the people.

A Commitment to Continued Growth

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde emphasized that Isla Mujeres has entered a constructive phase over the past four years, marked by social development and justice, resulting in a cleaner and safer municipality.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation of both leaders’ dedication to shaping the future of Isla Mujeres and Quintana Roo together.
