Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama announced on Sunday the launch of Chetumal’s first pilot public transportation route, addressing one of the city’s most pressing demands: the lack of a formal, accessible, and efficient mobility system in the state capital.

Through her social media channels, the governor introduced the "Ruta Caribe," which will begin operations on Monday, August 18, covering key strategic points across the city. The service will run from Monday to Sunday, operating from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

As part of the initial phase to promote the new service, the Institute of Mobility (Imoveqroo) stated that rides will be free for passengers from August 18 to August 24.

The implementation of this pilot route marks a significant step forward, as Chetumal has faced a public transportation deficit for over a decade, forcing residents to rely primarily on taxis and motorcycle taxis.

With this project, the government aims to assess demand, improve urban connectivity, and lay the groundwork for a more organized and modern transportation system in Quintana Roo’s capital.
