Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A fire broke out on Friday at a grocery store in the Nueva Generación settlement, part of the Puerto Aventuras municipality, resulting in substantial material losses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire occurred at a store named La Güera, located at the intersection of Chicozapote and Mangle streets. Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke billowing from inside the establishment, prompting nearby residents and passersby to act quickly. Several individuals used buckets and hoses in an attempt to extinguish the flames before the arrival of the Heroic Fire Department.
The swift response from local residents helped contain much of the fire before firefighters arrived. Firefighters inspected the interior of the store to ensure no remaining flames posed a further risk to the property.
While no injuries were reported, the fire caused severe damage inside the store. Shelving, refrigerators, and merchandise were destroyed by the flames and smoke, resulting in significant financial losses for the owners.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, though firefighters have not ruled out an electrical short circuit as a possible factor. They advised store owners to conduct regular inspections of their electrical systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
