Cozumel, Quintana Roo — In celebration of International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) inaugurated an exhibition and awarded prizes for the second edition of the Manga Art Cozumel 2025 competition. The event, held at the Museo de la Isla, aims to promote young artistic talent and provide a platform for creative expression.

Recognizing Emerging Artists

Museum Director Isela Carrillo, FPMC advisor Alejandro Queb, visual artist Verónica Ochoa, and museographer Satoko Kitamura presented awards to the 25 participants, including the top three winners.

First place was awarded to Regina Rosselí Uc, who received a cash prize of 2,000 pesos. Sofía Alejandra Piña secured second place, earning 1,250 pesos, while Óscar Valentín Fuentes claimed third place with a prize of 750 pesos.

The judging panel, composed of visual artists Verónica Ochoa and Margarita Borge, also recognized three additional works with honorable mentions. These distinctions were awarded to Miguel Ángel Marí, Ana Adelaida Moguel, and Dana Alejandra Méndez.

A Platform for Creativity

Carrillo emphasized that FPMC Director General Juanita Alonso prioritizes supporting emerging artists through initiatives like this competition, which offers young people an accessible cultural space to express their ideas, emotions, and talents.

Manga, a Japanese illustration and graphic storytelling style, has gained global popularity for its diverse genres, compelling characters, and emotional resonance. In Cozumel, the competition has become a valued outlet for local youth to showcase their creativity and connect with the community.

Exhibition Open to the Public

The Manga Art Cozumel 2025 exhibition will remain on display at the Museo de la Isla through the end of September, free of charge. Residents and visitors are encouraged to view the works of Cozumel’s emerging young artists.
