Frontier Airlines’ Top Hub: Cancún Leads International Routes

Cancún, Mexico — Frontier Airlines has confirmed that Cancún International Airport has become its most significant international hub, surpassing all other non-U.S. destinations in its network. An analysis by Aviation A2Z of the low-cost carrier’s top 20 international routes revealed that 10 of them originate from Cancún, outpacing popular destinations such as Punta Cana, San Juan, and Montego Bay.

Key Routes and Passenger Traffic

The busiest route from Cancún is to Philadelphia, ranking first among all connections from the Quintana Roo city. This route operates 62 flights per month, offering nearly 14,500 available seats and generating over 21 million available seat miles (ASM). It holds the fourth position in Frontier’s overall Top 20 list.

Following closely are Cancún–Chicago and Cancún–St. Louis, Missouri, both tied for fifth place with 62 monthly flights and 13,336 available seats. The Chicago route records over 19 million ASM, while St. Louis reaches approximately 16 million. Cancún–Denver also operates 62 monthly flights but offers 11,532 seats and nearly 19 million ASM.

Other notable Cancún routes featured in the ranking include Cleveland, Atlanta, Dallas Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, and Cincinnati.

Top-Performing Routes in Frontier’s Network

The highest-ranking route in Frontier’s network is Punta Cana–San Juan, with 82 monthly flights, 17,844 seats, and over 27 million ASM. Santo Domingo–San Juan takes second place, while Chicago (O’Hare)–Punta Cana ranks third.

Frontier Airlines’ expansion in Cancún underscores the airport’s growing importance as a key international gateway for the carrier.
