Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) has initiated an investigation into the disappearance of two foreign tourists in Cancún, part of seven missing persons reports filed within a 24-hour period. The missing individuals have been identified as Adam Charles King, a 31-year-old U.S. citizen, and Edwin Alexander Hipsey, a 28-year-old Canadian national.
Details of the Disappearances
According to authorities, King was last seen on April 29 in Cancún, though the FGE did not provide further details about the delayed activation of his missing persons case a week later. Hipsey’s family lost contact with him on March 3, when he was reportedly vacationing in the area. His relatives only recently arrived in Cancún to file a formal report, prompting the FGE to open an investigation two months after his disappearance.
The FGE has not confirmed whether the disappearances were forced or if the tourists left the area without notifying their families. Investigators are currently working to locate the hotels where the men stayed and trace their possible movements.
Broader Context of Missing Persons Cases
The disappearances coincide with six other missing persons reports in Quintana Roo, including cases involving minors in Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún. The FGE has urged the public to share any relevant information through official channels to prevent scams or extortion attempts targeting families.
In a separate development, advocacy groups have reported progress in identifying approximately 600 bodies at the state morgue (SEMEFO), though genetic testing remains necessary for families of missing individuals in Quintana Roo.
Authorities Seek Public Assistance
The FGE has activated search notices for all missing persons and is coordinating efforts to determine the circumstances behind each case. No further updates have been provided regarding the whereabouts of King or Hipsey.
The FGE continues to investigate all leads while emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in resolving these cases.
