Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — In the early hours of Tuesday, an unidentified man entered a bar in Playa del Carmen and fired multiple gunshots, destroying surveillance cameras before fleeing the scene. The establishment, Sergio’s Bar, temporarily closed its doors following the incident due to fears of further violence against patrons and staff.

Incident Details

Authorities received an emergency call via 911 reporting gunfire inside Sergio’s Bar, located on Avenida 40 at Calle 18 in the Centro neighborhood. Upon arrival, Playa del Carmen’s Municipal Public Security personnel confirmed no injuries and canceled medical assistance that had been dispatched.

Investigations revealed that the attacker acted alone. Witnesses reported that the individual arrived with an accomplice who waited outside. The gunman entered the bar, fired his weapon without speaking, and fled immediately. No arrests have been made.

The case has been transferred to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for further investigation.

Surveillance Footage Compromised

The assailant deliberately targeted the bar’s surveillance system, rendering cameras inoperable. Authorities are reviewing nearby footage and witness statements to identify the suspect.

No motive has been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
