Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Navy, through its Coast Guard operations, reported that personnel from the Fifth Naval Region successfully evacuated a female passenger from a cruise ship off the coast of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, following a medical emergency.
Emergency Response at Sea
The operation was initiated after authorities received a distress call from the cruise ship, which was navigating near Isla Mujeres. The vessel requested urgent medical evacuation for a 72-year-old woman suffering from a myocardial infarction (heart attack).
To safeguard human life at sea, the Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) in Isla Mujeres immediately deployed a Defender-class vessel. The boat carried specialized rescue personnel and naval medical staff. Upon arrival at the emergency site—approximately 40 nautical miles (74 kilometers) south of Isla Mujeres—the team assessed and evacuated the patient.
Transfer to Medical Facility
Following the evacuation, the woman was transported to Puerto Juárez, Quintana Roo, where a private ambulance awaited to transfer her to a local hospital for specialized medical care.
