A motorcycle deliveryman, Luis Antonio Borja, has accused officers from the Secretary of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo in Tulum of theft. He lodged a formal complaint at the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Fight Against Corruption, based in Playa del Carmen, after his local office refused to accept it.
Borja claims that the officers unjustly took his possessions. He hopes that his actions will set a precedent and put an end to such incidents, which he alleges have occurred repeatedly without any repercussions.
Borja stated, "Enough is enough, we can't live like this. Even though I lost a day and had to travel because the local Prosecutor's office wouldn't accept my complaint, I want the law to be enforced and these thieving police officers to be stopped." He was visibly upset during his statement.
The complaint was officially logged under the case number FECC/QROO/DC/44/03/2025. As part of the legal proceedings, Borja's rights were read to him on March 24, 2025, at 22:24 hours. The Public Ministry, who are responsible for overseeing the case, are required to ensure the protection of Borja, any witnesses, and all other parties involved. They are expected to act in accordance with principles of legality, impartiality, and efficiency.
Borja's complaint specifically targets officers who were in patrol car number 12376. He alleges that they harassed him and stole 500 pesos in cash. He recalls being stopped on Satélite Street, near a gas station, under the guise of a routine inspection. "They separated me from my motorcycle, searched all my belongings, and took 500 pesos and a battery that I use for work," Borja explained. He also claimed that he was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car.
Borja stated, "They accused me of using drugs and demanded the passwords for my cell phone. They questioned whether I was part of any criminal group." He said the situation escalated until bystanders began recording the incident, which led to his immediate release. However, his money and battery were not returned. Borja now awaits justice and hopes for a severe punishment for the officers involved.
