Tulum, a renowned location in the Riviera Maya, is currently the backdrop for the filming of a children's movie titled "Sand Pirates". This film emphasizes environmental conservation and tells the story of a group of children striving to protect Tulum's delicate ecology from various threats.

The film's director, Juan Carlos Blanco, was inspired to create the movie after visiting Tulum in 2024. He was captivated by the region's breathtaking natural beauty and wanted it to be a central element in his story. "Tulum has a unique beauty, and I wanted that nature to be at the heart of the story," Blanco said. The film, told through the eyes of children, aims to showcase the distinctive ecosystems and values that make Tulum a special place.

The Centro de Estudios Cinematográficos AC (Indie), a film school established in Mexico City in 2001 by a group of like-minded students and teachers, is overseeing the production. The casting process began in December 2024 and included both professional actors and local residents. Filming commenced in early 2025 and is slated to conclude in April of the same year. Blanco suggests that "Sand Pirates" will debut in 2026, though the distribution method is still undecided — it may be released on streaming platforms or in cinemas. Regardless of the release platform, the film carries a crucial message about the importance of environmental preservation for future generations.

"Sand Pirates" aims not only to entertain but also to raise awareness about the ecological challenges faced by unique locations like Tulum.
