A portion of the Mayan Train construction project in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, has collapsed. This incident occurred in section 7 of the project due to heavy rainfall from a potential Tropical Cyclone One. A vehicle was crushed during the collapse, with images circulating on social media showing a van trapped under a pile of twisted metal rods. As of now, there is no confirmation of any casualties or injuries.
The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the organization responsible for overseeing and executing the construction, is on site managing the situation. They are currently assessing and controlling the damage.
The collapse took place near C4, a location on the Chetumal-Huay Pix road. This is not the first incident of this nature; on June 5th, an 18-meter tall column collapsed in the Xul Ha area. Section 7 of this large-scale project, which is being promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's government, stretches from the Laguna de los Siete Colores in Bacalar, Quintana Roo, to the dense Mayan jungle in Escárcega, Chiapas.
The section of the Mayan Train that runs from Bacalar to the state capital is planned to include the construction of six bridges. This was announced by the Army after the "filling of the Estero de Chac".
